Kansas
City Utility Fund Management
MAAC has distributed utility funds to Kansas City area
agencies since 1982. MAAC began utilizing a centralized computer database
system in 1989. The current system links funding sources through more
than 50 agencies located within the customer service area of local energy
companies.
MAAC administers more than $600,000.00 each year to
assist those unable to pay their utility bills. More than 4,000 families
are helped annually through the seven privately donated MAAC managed
funds. MAAC also verifies eligibility for Federal Emergency Management
Agency (FEMA) funds to assist low-income clients with food, utilities
and shelter. The guidelines for service and shelter eligibility are
consistently maintained through MAACLink.
Utility funds are managed through the use of MAACLink,
MAAC's computer network. With the database, an agency can verify a recipient's
eligibility, document services, and retrieve reports on services and
clients. On-line fund balances are also available on MAACLink for internal
agency management and networking among the agencies in the metropolitan
Kansas City area and throughout portions of Kansas and Missouri.
Recently, the fund management features contained in the MAACLink
database have been expanded so that the system may be used by other
communities to manage fund distributions. In addition, participating
agencies in Kansas City may use MAACLink to monitor their agency fund
balances.
